Computer Prescriptions

Efficiency has gotten to be important. Recent articles suggest that doctors' handwriting has gotten even worse. I don't believe a word of it. I think their handwriting has always been terrible!
Computer generated prescriptions are one way to minimize the impact of this. Besides, it is quite efficient.

Depending on the laws for your state, several possibilities exist.

Grouped prescriptions for commonly prescribed medications are possible. This simply involves more than one prescription on a prescription form. In CRK and CRK Plus a grouped meds template can be used. One makes up the file and then reuses it. There is also a provision to copy the information into the progress notes for a record of what you have done.
You can specify whether a medication is generic or brand name.
Any part of the grouped meds file for a patient can be quickly accessed or changed.
The file can be printed out on standard paper, signed, and given to the patient.
Then put your scripts in a locked, electronic encrypted vault in your computer for documentation.
You can also fax the scripts to a pharmacy conventionally.
You can mail the scripts to a pharmacy.
You can mail the scripts to your patient.
You can print out the prescription and hand it to the patient.
This form of prescription is not possible for stimulants, or for controlled substances in most states.

The method greatly decreases your having to repetitively hand write prescriptions.

In addition, in CRK you can use the abbreviation function to help with the data entry for medication changes, labs, Rx'es, and dates. In CRK Plus you can use the Quick Text function. It is surprising how effective simple tools can be in managing these tasks.
