1. The operating system on which the program runs needs to be Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional (not Windows XP home version).
2. There can be either network software or a peer-to-peer network.
3. No specific server is needed for groups of 4 or 5 or less. One workstation can hold the central database and template folder. If you already have a server so much the better.
4. Each work station has a copy of CRK Pro on it. In peer-to-peer networks the database is put on a work station. In selected instances (Laptop computers) one practitioner's database can be put on their local computer.
5. It is assumed that a hardware router and robust anti virus software protects any connection to the Internet.
6. It is further assumed that access to Clinical Record Keeper Pro is controlled at the operating system level and access within CRK Pro is controlled via passwords for redundant safety of your valuable records.
7. If a server is used, a 10/100 data switch, not a hub) is recommended for blazing performance.
8. If Windows XP is used, the security features of that program should be turned off because they will fight with your anti virus software.
9. There is an absolute limit of 10 workstations on peer-to-peer networks but a more realistic size is 4-5 practitioners. No such limitation pertains to servers with network software.
10. Although CRK Pro runs on MS-Access,
Access does not need to be installed on your network.
CRK Pro has its own Access run files included.
11. For users
of Paperport, an assessment of your needs is necessary
because image files are large and require a computer of
considerable power and hard drive space depending on the
number of files you need to process and how many people
access the files.
12. Laptop owners can connect to the network and collaborative databases, but have their own separate databases as well.
13. Training will be needed for members who use this program if they are not computer knowledgeable. This is necessarily an involved program and because it can do a lot, has commands and controls that require you learn how to run it. A training database can be included.
14. Installation and implementation of this program can be done quickly.
Next
Word is the creator of the database engine for both
CRK Plus and CRK Pro. Next word has had years of experience
in developing this software.
In choosing
software on which to run Clinical Record Keeper Pro™ many
qualities had to be considered. Foremost was the reliability
of the database engine. Longevity, ease of use, commands
that were standard Windows commands, ability to house
templates, and flexibility of organization were also important.
Finally it was a plus that the database ran on MS-Access,
one of the largest and most frequently used databases
in the free world. The characteristics of the program
itself were also important as well as the functions it
could perform. The final decision went to Nextword, the
creator of InfoTree, a professional information organizer
with just the right amount of flexibility. We are proud
to collaborate with Nextword in the creation of Clinical
Record Keeper Plus and Pro.
